FV CONFERENCE ARCHIVES
As a major community awareness / education activity, the Centre hosted a two-day social enterprise conference in September 2005 called Capital Change: The New Return on Investment.
Over 130 community leaders and influencers representing policy makers, social services administrators, and organizations providing services to both the business and not-for-profit sectors were in attendance. This is a strong indication of the level of interest that exists in the area of social enterprise and the potential for its positive effect on our communities.
The conference goals of building awareness and understanding; creating a positive and motivated core of individuals to lead it; and contributing to the pioneering dialogue on the social economy and enterprise development were achieved.
The event demonstrated the social value to be derived from an entrepreneurial approach to addressing socio-economic challenges in communities.
The conference was sponsored by the Business Development Bank of Canada, Coast Capital Savings and Credit Union, MCC Economic and Community Development, the Federal Rural Secretariat, Sandstorm Creative Glass Works Studio, Vancity Business Banking, Vancity Community Foundation, and Western Economic Diversification Canada. Strong organizational support was enjoyed from the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of the Fraser Valley.
